ezDrive Vertical Stand-Off: specs, price and the boats it fits

The Vertical Stand-Off holds ezDrive’s upright thruster on a bracket 12 in out from the transom, for a stern where the unit cannot sit flat against the hull. Push is 88 lb in either direction at 12 V, the same as the other two mounts, so the choice comes down to how your transom is shaped. Angle diverters, an option, point the flow where your hull wants it.

Like every ezDrive, it is sold by quote rather than from a price list. The box brings the iBox, a rocker control, the bracket hardware and a 225 A breaker with a quick shut-off. Running the battery cable is your job. ezDrive’s guide for its horizontal units asks for 1/0 gauge or heavier, straight to a 12 V battery. See every part.

At 41 lb it is the heaviest of the three mounts. There is no published guide for the vertical models, so ask ezDrive for the one that ships in the box before the yard starts. The motor is sealed and wants no routine service; keep the nozzles clear of weed. Warranty: two years for a pleasure boat, registered, and one year commercial.

Fitting it yourself? The installer section has every spec, and the Yacht Thruster and ezDrive review sets this model against the rest of the ezDrive range.

Is it right for your boat?

What ezDrive says No boat length Our sizing is the guide here
What our sizing says 37 to 48 ft Full thrust in 15 knots. The longest boat of each kind is in the table.

Our figure is the longest boat one unit can steer in a 15 knot wind. It is a range because each kind of boat catches the wind differently. Here a sailboat gets full thrust to 37 ft, and an express cruiser to 48 ft.

The table below tries the ezDrive Vertical Stand-Off on each kind of boat, at every length that kind of boat is built in. The wind is 15 knots and the rules are the finder’s own. A length counts as a fit when the unit gives the thrust that boat needs where it mounts. ezDrive publishes no boat length, so thrust alone decides.

The ezDrive Vertical Stand-Off against each kind of boat, in a 15 knot wind. Our sizing, from the finder’s own rules.
Boat Full thrust at 15 knotsStill a fit, in lighter wind
Pontoon & tritoon Not listed. Its maker does not name this kind of hull.
Sailboat 32 to 37 ft 38 to 56 ftfull thrust to about 10 knots at 56 ft
Houseboat Not listed. Its maker does not name this kind of hull.
Catamaran Not listed. An external unit bolts to the side of a single hull at the bow or to its transom, and a cat has two narrow hulls with a bridgedeck between them, so there is nowhere forward to hang one.
Trawler 31 to 37 ft 38 to 55 ftfull thrust to about 10 knots at 55 ft
Motor yacht 35 to 37 ft 38 to 55 ftfull thrust to about 10 knots at 55 ft
Bass & flats No length. More thrust than the boat needs.
Wake & ski boats No length. More thrust than the boat needs.
Express cruiser 40 to 48 ft 49 to 65 ftfull thrust to about 11 knots at 65 ft
Center console No length. More thrust than the boat needs.

Reading the two length columns. The first column is where one unit gives all the thrust the boat needs in 15 knots. The second is where the finder still lists it: the unit falls short of what the boat needs by no more than 10 percent, and gives the whole figure only in the lighter wind named. On a boat shorter than the first column’s shortest length, the unit is more than the boat needs.

It is sized for four kinds of boat here. For your own boat, the finder gives an answer that also counts your drive and who does the fitting. The compare page sets this unit beside others.

What it costs fitted

No US dollar price is published for the ezDrive Vertical Stand-Off, so we build no total for it. The yard’s share of the job is on the cost page.

The sizing and the costs on this page are estimates, for guidance only and without warranty. They are no quote, and nobody has inspected your boat. Check them against the maker’s manual and your yard before you rely on them. Terms of use.

What else you buy

What follows comes from ezDrive’s FAQ and installation page, read 13 October 2026.

In the box
The thruster, mounting hardware, the iBox with its communication cable, the lit rocker control and the power flow nozzles, which the FAQ lists for every ezDrive kit. The protection is a 225 A breaker with quick shut-off, named on ezDrive's specification page.
Bought separately
The battery cable. The installation page says the package holds every part a normal install needs except the battery cables. ezDrive publishes no installation guide for this model. Its guide for the horizontal units asks for 1/0 AWG cable at least.
Charging
It runs off a 12 V battery, and ezDrive suggests a Group 31 AGM of its own. It says nothing about a charger.

In ezDrive’s words, from the FAQ: “Although a dedicated battery is not required, it is recommended for best performance. (Suggested: Group 31 AGM)”

A yard job adds these parts on top of the unit: $8 to $12 for the priced ones below, at Fisheries Supply’s prices on 30 September 2026, plus the batteries, cable and charger.

Parts the ezDrive Vertical Stand-Off’s box leaves to you, from the makers’ manuals read 30 September 2026. “What to ask for” is ezDrive’s own part or model where its manual names one, otherwise the dealer’s item.
Part What it is What to ask for Dealer price
Control-circuit fuse and switch A small fuse, and often a switch, on the thin wire that powers the panel or control box. A 5 A in-line fuse on the joystick or throttle feed $8–$12Blue Sea in-line ATO fuse holders, at Fisheries Supply, read 16 October 2026.
Battery cable and lugs The two heavy cables from the battery to the motor, sized to the length of the run. The wiring calculator sizes them. 1/0 AWG minimum In the electrical line
Battery bank A cranking-type bank near the motor, sized by the maker's cold cranking amps. The battery calculator checks it. ezDrive names none In the electrical line
Charger or charge feed How the thruster bank gets charged: a shore charger of its own, a DC-to-DC charger or charging relay from the boat's system, or a charger built into the unit. ezDrive names none $146–$305NOCO GEN5X2 shore charger, Victron Orion-Tr Smart DC-DC charger, Blue Sea ML-ACR charging relay, at Fisheries Supply.

The cost page has the whole list with what every maker says about each part.

Draw, cable, fuse and battery, at each voltage

These are the maker’s own figures, at each voltage it is sold at. The cable is the size for the shortest run in the maker’s table. A longer run may need heavier cable, and the wiring calculator works that out for your own boat.

What to weigh

Each point names the fact it rests on.

What to weigh

  • The boat comes out of the water to fit it: it needs a 1.25 in stainless steel threaded thru-hull fitting through the transom; position not stated relative to the waterline. The mount goes through the hull, and the maker describes no fitting afloat
  • ezDrive publishes no boat length for it. The boat table is our sizing alone. The maker's documents, as the database records them
  • No US dollar price is published for it, so we can work out no fitted cost. The maker and the dealers the database reads

What the manual and listings say

This is the note we keep on the ezDrive Vertical Stand-Off, written from the maker’s manual, its product pages and the dealer’s listing.

In the box: The kit has the iBox, a rocker control and a 225 A breaker. Battery cable is bought.

Our note

On a vertical stand-off bracket: 15 in tall, 12 in out from the hull, 41 lb. A 12 V transom unit for wake and ski boats, through one 1.25 in threaded fitting in the transom. ezDrive rates it 88 lb at 12 V and 77 lb at 10 V, and it draws 245 A.

It runs up to ten minutes, with a confirm-to-continue at three and a quarter minutes. ezDrive does not say whether it can be fitted afloat. No price is published. The maker quotes by email. A dedicated Group 31 AGM battery is recommended, not required.

Videos

Two of ezDrive’s own videos, from its YouTube channel: how the unit works, drawn, and a full install on a wake boat. They are the maker’s pitch. Watch them for what the unit looks like and how it goes in, and take any claim back to the figures above.
