Thruster specs
Quick BTQ 300: specs, price and the boats it fits
The BTQ 300 is the largest bow thruster Quick sells in the US, made for yachts of about 65 to 99 ft. Two propellers in a big tube through the hull give about 551 or 595 lb of push on 24 V. Quick also lists a still larger 48 V model. It comes from a maker in the thruster business since 2007.
It starts at $11,962 at Quick’s US store, for the thruster alone. The control panel, tube and fuse come separately: Quick’s joystick is $540, the tube starts at $1,247 and the heavy-duty fuse holder is $209. Batteries, cable and charging add about $2,322 to $4,767 more. See below for the full list.
The drive coupling for this size is the priciest in the range, $607 at the store, and the motor brushes are the other part that wears. Quick calls the unit unsuited to continuous running, so the panel turns it off once a run nears 5 minutes 40 seconds, then rests it for 20 minutes. Quick asks for a yearly strip-down, and its three-year warranty is void if anyone it hasn’t authorized does that work.
Installers will find the wiring figures and dimensions further down. For the rest of Quick’s line, read the Quick thruster review.

Is it right for your boat?
Our figure is the longest boat one unit can steer in a 15 knot wind. It is a range because each kind of boat catches the wind differently. Here a houseboat gets full thrust to 59 ft, and a catamaran to 80 ft. The maker gives one range for every boat.
The table below tries the Quick BTQ 300 on each kind of boat, at every length that kind of boat is built in. The wind is 15 knots and the rules are the finder’s own. A length counts as a fit when the unit gives the thrust that boat needs at the bow and the maker lists it for that length.
A boat up to 10 percent past the maker’s range still counts here, as it does in the finder. So the table runs down to 59 ft, just past Quick’s own range (65 to 85 ft).
| Boat | Full thrust at 15 knots | Still a fit, in lighter wind |
|---|---|---|
| Pontoon & tritoon | Not listed. A pontoon has no hull body between the logs to bore a tunnel through, and nobody sells one for these boats. | |
| Sailboat | 65 to 79 ft | 80 ft onlyfull thrust to just under 15 knots at 80 ft |
| Houseboat | 59 ft only | 60 to 80 ftfull thrust to about 11 knots at 80 ft |
| Catamaran | 74 to 80 ft | None |
| Trawler | 65 to 78 ft | 79 to 80 ftfull thrust to just under 15 knots at 80 ft |
| Motor yacht | 65 to 78 ft | 79 to 80 ftfull thrust to just under 15 knots at 80 ft |
| Bass & flats | Not listed. Nobody sells a tunnel kit for these hulls, and a bass boat’s shallow planing bow has almost no depth to hold one. | |
| Wake & ski boats | Not listed. Nobody sells a tunnel kit for these hulls. | |
| Express cruiser | No length. More thrust than the boat needs. | |
| Center console | No length. More thrust than the boat needs. | |
Reading the two length columns. The first column is where one unit gives all the thrust the boat needs in 15 knots. The second is where the finder still lists it: the unit falls short of what the boat needs by no more than 10 percent, and gives the whole figure only in the lighter wind named. On a boat shorter than the first column’s shortest length, the unit is more than the boat needs.
It is sized for five kinds of boat here. For your own boat, the finder gives an answer that also counts your drive and who does the fitting. The compare page sets this unit beside others.
What it costs fitted
These totals are our estimate of a yard job: the unit’s price, plus a yard’s hours at $160 to $180 an hour, plus the batteries, cable and charger, plus the other parts the box does not hold. A Lifting the boat out of the water on a travel lift or a trailer so work can be done below the waterline. It is billed separately from the job itself. adds $1,140 to $3,860 at these lengths, with 5 to 7 days out of the water, worked from eight yards’ own rate cards. The hours come from what owners and yards report. Your own yard will have its own opinion. The cost page builds the same figures line by line.
| Boat length | The unit | Yard labor | Haul-out | Batteries, cable, charger | Other parts | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 59 ft | $11,962 | $5,120 to $12,60032 to 70 hours | $1,140 to $2,850 | $2,322 to $2,456 | $1,189 to $2,130 | $21,733 to $31,998 |
| 70 ft | $11,962 | $5,120 to $12,60032 to 70 hours | $1,330 to $3,380 | $2,322 to $2,456 | $1,189 to $2,130 | $21,923 to $32,528 |

How the batteries, cable and charger add up. We price a battery bank close to the thruster, as the makers recommend, with 10 to 20 ft of cable out and back: red for the positive, black for the negative, cut to length. The low end is the cheapest battery that meets the figure and the shorter run; the high end is a sealed (AGM) battery and the longer run. The charger is a NOCO GEN5X2 two-bank shore charger.
Batteries and lugs are priced at Fisheries Supply and the cable and charger at Defender, read 12 October 2026.
- At 24 V: two 12 V batteries in series, at least 800 CCA and 150 Ah each (Quick’s minimum), $1,996 for both; Quick’s cable table gives 3/0 to 2 x 1/0 AWG, priced on 4/0 AWG, the nearest size cut to length: $180 to $314 for the red and black cable and the lugs; a GEN5X2 charger, $146.

What to weigh
Each point names the fact it rests on.
What to weigh
- The boat comes out of the water to fit it: it needs a tunnel bore below the waterline. The mounting: a bore through the hull, or a housing recessed into it
What the manual and listings say
This is the note we keep on the Quick BTQ 300, written from the maker’s manual, its product pages and the dealer’s listing.
In the box: The thruster, a drilling template, gasket and O-ring. The TCD panel and the fuse holder are bought.
BTQ 300-250, 250 KGF, double propeller, 24 V
The 250 kgf version, 24 V, with twin counter-rotating propellers in a 300 mm tunnel. The category page puts the whole BTQ 300 series on boats of 62 to 98 ft. The band here is the US store's own figure for this version. The manual gives a 400 A fuse at 24 V and a weight of 46.7 kg.
Its cable is 2/0 for a total run under 5 m (positive plus negative), two 1 AWG per leg to 10 m, two 3/0 AWG per leg to 20 m. The US store page printed 77.2 lb for both BTQ 300 variants where the manual gives 46.7 kg for this one and 55.9 for the 270.
The manual prints a fuse and cable sizes but no current draw and no battery figure. No product page gives a run time. The installation manual says the unit is not designed for continuous use and leaves the limit to the control panel. The panel's own manual cuts the command after about five minutes and resets it after a cool-down the panel computes.
The tunnel sits at least three quarters of its diameter below the waterline. Once a year the unit comes apart for inspection, anode included. The warranty runs three years from purchase, with repair or replacement at Quick's discretion. The warranty is void for maintenance by anyone Quick has not authorized or for non-original parts. Removal and refitting are at your cost.
Quick announced a brushless QSY range in September 2026, rated for ten minutes' continuous running. The QSY range will sit beside this brushed line. The price is Quick's US store's own for this size at 24 V, read 12 October.
BTQ 300-270, 270 KGF, double propeller, 24 V
The 270 kgf BTQ 300, twin counter-rotating propellers, 24 V. The manual gives a 500 A fuse at 24 V and a weight of 55.9 kg. Its cable is 3/0 for a total run under 5 m (positive plus negative), two 3/0 AWG per leg to 10 m, two 4/0 AWG per leg to 20 m. The manual's ladder tops out above it with a 48 V 300 kgf unit that no US page lists.
